Abstract

The cylinder body 1 of a piston and cylinder jack is made by extrusion. It includes a piston-receiving bore 10 and on its periphery a plurality of longitudinally extending ducts 3, 4, at least some of which have outwardly directed longitudinal slots 5. The slots 5 may be closed by longitudinally extending seals 6. The ducts can serve numerous purposes, e.g.: be tapped to receive end plate fixing screws 23; provide passages for fluid transfer from one end of the duct to another, such passages optionally having pressure take off points 60 for connection to jack operating or control components or for connection to jack accessories; provide mechanical support for jack operating components or accessories; and provide means for mechanical connection of the jack to a support. <IMAGE>
