Abstract

A device for raising and lowering a load, such as an elongate billet, comprises a trolley on pairs of wheels 3, 3' displaceable along a track 1. An arm 6 is pivoted at one end 5 to the trolley and provides a support surface 7 at its other end. A piston-cylinder device 8 serves to pivot the arm 6 about the trolley. A rotatable member shown as a pinion 11 mounted on the trolley is connected to the arm 6 so as to be rotated by movement of the arm 6 and this rotation is used in conjunction with claim 14 to cause the trolley to move along the track 1 so that the tip of the support surface 7 moves vertically in substantially the same vertical plane. The support surface may be horizontal and maintained horizontal during raising and lowering by a parallel link. <IMAGE>
