Abstract

In a deflection device for a safety belt the belt passes around a deflecting bar (1). To reduce the frictional band brake effect, the effective contact area between bar (1) and belt is reduced by means of the deflecting bar and/or the belt being provided with bearing surface discontinuities. Preferably, the discontinuities are grooves (6) in the surface of the deflecting bar (1). <IMAGE>
