Abstract

An optical cable interconnection weather arrangement comprises two mating non-magnetic connector parts C, C' respectively attached to the cable ends, each connector part having passageways through which individual fibres F1, F2, F3 etc are fitted from the optical cables CO and CO'. The ends of the fibres have coverings R1, R2, R3 etc which are made of ferro-magnetic material and fitted to the exterior of the connector parts means (e.g. permanent ring magnets M, M') which provide parallel flux lines within the two connector parts when these are mated thereby inducing the magnetic coverings R1, R1' etc of face to face fibre ends to be mutually attracted so as to effect a continuation of the fibres and at the same time an accurate alignment. <IMAGE>
