Abstract

The apparatus comprises two rigid arms (22,23) aligned with or parallel to each other which are pivotally connected about a pivot (24). One arm (23) is adapted to hold load-carrying means which may be a hopper (30) or an open cradle. The other arm (22) holds vehicle-engaging means, such as a plate or frame (16a,18) adapted to engage between the vehicle wheels and the ground, so that the vehicle may act as a counterweight.There is provided a power operated means, preferably a hydraulic ram (25) to swing the first arm (23) about the pivot (24) into an upright position so as to raise the load-carrying means (30) relative to the ground. Both the load carrying means (30) and the vehicle-engaging means (18) are detachable from and slidable over the rigid arms, thus permitting a load to be lifted to different heights above ground level and in different positions relative to the vehicle providing the counterweight. <IMAGE>
