Abstract

A multi-action crank press comprising a plurality of tools for cutting out a blank from a strip of material and forming said blank into a hollow container, the press having at least three rams (19, 28) associated with the container forming tools, each ram being connected to a common crankshaft (7) shaped to provide the rams (19, 28) with a different operating stroke to each other, one of the rams (28) being a main drawing ram and being separately adjustably located in a frame (6) of the press between the other two rams (19) each of which is a cutting ram mounted in a cassette or sub-assembly (22) separately adjustably fixed to the press frame (6). In a preferred embodiment, drawing sleeves (30) are connected to pneumatically operated pistons (31) disposed in the main drawing ram (28). <IMAGE>
