Abstract

Dye relief images are formed by information-wise exposure of a gelatin silver halide emulsion layer containing a colourless dye precursor, development of the exposed layer, treating the layer with an etch-bleach solution thereby optionally converting the dye precursor into a dye, removing the gelatin in the exposed portion and converting unaffected dye precursor into a dye. When the dye precursor is a leuco dye it is converted into a dye by oxidation either in the oxidative etch-bleach or in a separate step. When it is a colour coupler it is reacted with oxidized primary amine to form a dye during development or after the etch-bleaching. The emulsion can comprise dots of blue-, green- and red-sensitive emulsions having associated therewith yellow-, magenta- and cyan-dye providing precursors.
