Abstract

A photographic silver dye bleach process comprises (a) imagewise exposing a material comprising, in order, a supercoat layer, a silver halide emulsion layer, a layer containing a bleachable image dye and a support, (b) black and white developing and, (c) silver dye bleaching in the presence of a silver dye bleach catalyst. Dye bleach catalysts described are diazine catalysts preferably of the quinoxaline or pyrazine type and many examples of such compounds are specified. The material may be prepared as two sections. A stripping layer or a stripping position may be present between the silver halide emulsion layer and the bleachable image dye layer. At least one light opaque layer may be adjacent to the silver halide emulsion layer (see Example).
