Abstract

A spring-loaded plunger 7 carries an arm 12 which cooperates with a retainer (cf. Fig. 2), the retainer being shaped such that the arm has to be moved through a correct sequence of movements between "lock" and "release" positions. To move the arm from the "lock" to the "release" position, the plunger is first rotated in one direction, is depressed against the action of the spring 10, and while still depressed, is then rotated in the opposite direction. As an example of use, the locking device can be fitted to a manhole cover and frame. <IMAGE>
