Abstract

Two tubular elements (1,2) are joined by inserting one end portion of one tubular element (2) into one end portion of the other tubular element (1). A peripheral groove (3) is provided in the outer surface of the one end portion of the tubular element (2). An elastic sealing ring (4) has a substantially L-shaped cross section formed by two parts (7, 8). One part (7) of the sealing ring extends within the groove whilst the other part (8) projects to form a peripheral flange. Upon insertion of the end portion of the tubular element (2) into the end portion of the tubular element (1) the two parts (7, 8) of the sealing ring (4) are brought into an overlapping position. The invention has the advantage that the part (7) of the sealing ring (4) in the groove (3) is not subjected to torsional moment and so it is not necessary to secure the sealing ring (4) in position. <IMAGE>
