Abstract

A braking system for a dish type radar antenna comprises shoes 53, 54 arranged to bear respectively on side surfaces of a bearing member 27 of a track (24) of the dish (21), a slide member 51 engaging the shoes 53, 54 and a hydraulic piston-cylinder arrangement 65 actuable on the slide member 51 and the shoes 53, 54 to bring the shoes 53, 54 into engagement with the side surfaces to hold the dish (21) in any desired position. As shown slide member 51 rests on a bed plate 52, and supports moving brake shoes 53 and fixed brake shoes 54. Cheek plates 55 extend over wheels 57 and are kept in place by keep plates 56. The piston cylinder arrangement comprises two hydraulic jacks 65 are arranged to bear on the shoes 53, and on member 51. If there is any substantial misalignment between the shoes, the slide member 51 can be drawn through a gap in the bed plate 52 to take up any inaccuracies. The arrangement may be connected to a hydraulic accumulator to ensure that it fails safe on. <IMAGE>
