Abstract

An i.c. engine has diaphragm fuel pump 14 incorporated in the body of an automatic choke. The volume of control chamber 68 is controlled in accordance with engine temperature and the depression in it is limited by a mechanism comprising a beam 96 which rocks on the diaphragm 71, a control rod 97 which is pivotally connected to one end of the beam 96 and which has its location within the chamber 68 controlled by the thermostatic mechanism of the cold start device in accordance with engine temperature, and a suction port shut-off valve 95 which is spring seated on the other end of the beam 96. A clearance between the rod 97 and a bore 99 in which it slides provides a restricted air bleed into the chamber 68. The suction port is connected to the engine inlet manifold. <IMAGE>
