Abstract

A transvesnously inserted endocardial lead for a cardiac pacemaker includes a conductive terminal member 11 at one end for location in the trabeculae of a patient's heart, and an elongated conductor 15 surrounded by an insulating sleeve 18 and electrically connected to the terminal member 11, the member 11 having an expanded head 13 at one end of a narrow neck 12 the other end of which extends into sleeve 18 and is electrically connected to conductor 15, the head 13 being domed at its leading end and having a surface 14 tapering inwardly to the neck 12 and non-continuous with the remaining surface of head 13. An insulating sheath 17 surrounds at least part of the region of the neck 12 projecting from the sleeve 18 and extends at least up to sleeve 18, sheath 17 being of reduced external cross-sectional dimensions compared with those of sleeve 18 and head 13. Surface 14 may be planar and perpendicular to a cylindrical surface 13a of head 13, or surfaces 14, 13a may be part-spherical. <IMAGE>
