Abstract

A submarine cable having at least one conductor 10, conductor insulation 11, plastics sheath 14, first jute resistance layer 15, anti-torsional armouring helical windings 16, 17 and a second resistance layer 18, ensures a balancing out of longitudinal forces exerted on the conductor by the respective windings 16, 17, during torsion of the cable in the opening direction of the outer winding 17, by selection of the thickness of the first resistance layer 15 and the angle of lay of the winding in the second resistance layer 18. <IMAGE>
