Abstract

An ink jet printer includes a pulse responsive actuating member (15, 16) which produces pressure increases in an ink chamber (17) of an ink jet print head (4) to cause ejection of ink droplets. A control circuit is provided to generate drive pulses for the actuating member (15, 16) having a duration such that the actuating member (15, 16) is maintained in an actuated state for a sufficient length of time for the pressure decrease resulting from the return of the actuating member (15, 16) to tend to compensate a pressure fluctuation in the ink resulting from the initial driving movement of the actuating member (15, 16). The invention assists in reducing the undesired drawing in of air bubbles from the output nozzle towards the ink chamber (17). <IMAGE>
