Abstract

An automatic valve for sanitation waste pipes prevents air passing from the pipe into the atmosphere but opens when negative pressure exists in the pipe to allow entry of air to the pipe. The valve body is a vertical tube (1) fixed on the pipe and having a venturi construction (2) at its upper end over which is a cover (4) forming a peripheral inlet. A movable valve member (6) is seated on the upper end of the tube (1) and on an internal projection (7) on the cover (4), so as to lift off, without becoming jammed, when negative pressure exists in the tube (1). The valve allows the waste pipe to be connected to a venting fan so that forced ventilation of rooms can take place via the waste pipes. <IMAGE>
