Abstract

A press-on or snap-fit closure member 10 carries a tamper-indicating sleeve 32 which must be irreparably separated therefrom in order to remove the closure member from the neck 14 of the container 12. The closure member comprises an endwall 26 carrying downwardly depending retaining means 28. The endwall provides an overhang presenting a bearing surface against which axially directed manual force is exerted for removal of the closure member. The tamper-indicating sleeve 32 isolates the bearing surface from manual accessibility. A selectively weakened web section 34 connects the sleeve to the endwall 26. At least one tear groove or slit 36 is provided between the lower extremity of the sleeve and the selectively weakened web section. An inwardly directed retaining bead engages the container neck in snug, snap-fit relationship. The press- on and tamperproof features may be optionally incorporated into either a one-piece member, such as a snap cap, or a two-piece lid and ring assembly. <IMAGE>
