Abstract

An extruded tubular blank is placed in a mould such that it is divided into two portions 1,4 connected by a conduit 5a coaxial with a blowing needle 6. A first one of the portions 1 is blown to form a container, whereas the second 4 is not blown and remains hot and malleable. The walls of the second portion 4 are then compressed one against the other and welded together to close the blowing orifice 5a. The mould comprises two chambers 3, 4, and a blowing conduit 5, 5a. The blowing needle 6 slides in this conduit 5, 5a in an air-tight manner so as to pierce the blank and inflate solely the first chamber 3. Inflation air is then removed and a flat head 26 driven by a piston 18 then moves in the second chamber in order to crush and weld together the walls of the unblown second blank portion 4. Alternatively the second blank portion may be crushed by compressed air. <IMAGE>
