Abstract

Vertical direct chill casting of non- ferrous metals (e.g. Al) in which liquid metal is supplied to a mould 4 by level pour through a launder 2 and is discharged at a position below the surface and within the periphery of a pool 6 of liquid metal in the assembly through apertures 5. The metal maintains a constant level from the furnace to the mould. The part of the launder within the mould may be movable between a raised and lowered position (Figure 5b) <IMAGE>
