Abstract

In a method and apparatus for wrapping a strip (14) of film around vertical sides of an article (12) as the article, on a turntable (2), is rotated about a vertical axis (3), the leading end of the strip (14) is engaged by grippers (16) on a support (21) carried on an extensible arm (17) and positioned adjacent one of said vertical sides to be pressed thereagainst by a pressure finger (18) mounted on the turntable (2), the finger holds the leading end of the strip against the article, as the turntable rotates, at least until said leading end is prevented from separating from the article by an overlying portion of the strip drawn off a reel (7), whereupon the finger (18) returns to its initial position (18b). <IMAGE>
