Abstract

201,363. Dessau, M. M., and Plantation Rubber Manufacturing Co., Ltd. June 24, 1922. Mops.-A series of cords or strips 1, Fig. 1, of crepe rubber is clamped together at one end subsequently vulcanized to cause the, clamped ends 2 to adhere to each other while the outer ends hang freely. The ends 2 are secured to or held within a socket 4 adapted to receive the end of a handle 5. A modified construction of mop, shown in Fig. 3, comprises a series of strips 6, each passed through two holes in a block 7 of sponge rubber or other material secured to a backing plate 8. The two ends of each strip are then twisted to adhere to each other adjacent the block 7, the complete mop being subsequently vulcanized. Strips of woven material of fibre, fabric, sponge rubber or wash leather may be used in conjunction with the rubber strips. In one construction of composite cord a strip of crepe rubber is shaped to envelop partly a cord of hemp, fabric or other absorbent material, the two being pressed together and then vulcanized.
