Abstract

The invention provides a mechanism including a fluid spring device 7 linking the seat 1 and the back-rest 6 of a chair, by means of which device the height and rake of the back-rest can be adjusted relative single control member 4, 14. The rake is fixed by the axial position of the piston 11 in the cylinder 8 of device 7 and the height is fixed by means of a spring-loaded detent device 18, the control member 4, 14 being movable against the spring-load to release first the detent 18 and then on further movement to open the valve of device 7. The operating button 19 of the valve is spring-loaded and this spring- loading provides the spring-loading of the detent device 18. <IMAGE>
