Abstract

An electrical winding 1 has straight side portions 1a, 1b which are each insulated by at least one mica sheet 2 coated with a supporting foil of plastics material. The mica sheets 2 are wound in layers around the side portions so that, by virtue of oblique sides 2c, 2d of the sheets, successive layers encroach increasingly on the curved end portions B of the winding. The sheets 2 may include a resin which can be heat-hardened in situ. <IMAGE>
