Abstract

Apparatus for detecting the presence or level of liquid on one side of a wall from the other side includes an ultrasonic transmitting transducer 10 and an ultrasonic receiving transducer 11 adapted to be applied to the wall and to transmit ultrasonic radiation into the liquid and to receive radiation reflected by the liquid respectively. The transmitting transducer 10 is connected to an ultrasonic generator 15 which in turn is connected to a frequency modulator 16. The receiving transducer 11 is connected to an amplitude demodulator and smoother 18 to demodulate and smooth the signal which represents the reflected radiation. The apparatus further includes means responsive to the demodulated and smoothed signal, such as headphones 22 coupled to a voltage controlled variable frequency oscillator 20 by an output transformer 21. <IMAGE>
