Abstract

201,290. Vaughan, E., and Pratt, E. F. May 13, 1022. Spring surfaces for mattresses &c. of the type having a fabric or like surface supported by springs with their axes at right angles to the plane of the fabric, have the upper coils of the springs located between two layers of the covering fabric. The invention is illustrated as applied to a mattress of the kind described in Specification 189,489 in which the springs d are mounted on rocker arms f. As shown in Fig. 4, the lower fabric layer is divided into longitudinal strips b whose edges are connected at intervals by clips g leaving longitudinal slots c permitting adjustment of the fabric by the usual transverse end member h, Fig. 2. Flexible chains or the like e are connected to the upper coil of each spring to limit its extension.
