Abstract

A burner comprises a blower 13 for blowing combustion air into a main tube 1, pipes 8 supplying gas to a plurality of jets 10 directed into a plurality of gas and air mixing tubes 4 mounted within the main tube 1 in parallel spaced relationship with each other, a plurality of combustion air openings 14 close to the jets 10, from a space 21 defined by the external surface of the mixing tubes 4 and the main tube 1, through which in use, combustion air flows into the mixing tubes and mixes with gas whilst the gas and air flows along the tube, and air also flows from the space 21 through further apertures (17), Fig. 2 (not shown) into a combustion chamber 7 to mix with the gas and air mixture ejecting from the outlets 15 of the mixing tubes 4, and an ignition device for igniting a pilot flame at the outlet of a mixing tube. The apertures (17) through which the secondary air flows are located in plate 6 positioned at the outlet end of the mixing tubes. Flame retention devices 12, each comprising a gauze (16), Fig. 1 (not shown), are located within each of the mixing tubes. <IMAGE>
