Abstract
A fast curing, storage-stable single package anticorrosive primer composition comprises zinc dust, a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy lower alkyl polysilicate binder having a hydrolysis degree in the range of from 45-69%, preferably about 52%, an organic volatile solvent dissolving the polysilicate, an amine as catalyst for the curing of said polysilicate, and optionally an acrylic or vinylic polymer as co-binder. A preferred process for preparing the composition comprises hydrolysing the silicate in the organic solvent with an aqueous acid, thereafter adding the amine to neutralize the acid and provide a pH of about 7-10 followed by addition of co-binder, if any, zinc dust, pigments, extenders and thickeners, and grinding.
