Abstract
A television receiver used in conjunction with a video tape recorder is liable to receive a step change in phase of the horizontal synchronizing pulse occurring prior to the vertical blanking signal and this can produce a distorted video display. The unwanted video distortion results from too slow slewing of the horizontal oscillator phase-locked loop to the new phase. By the invention, to reduce the video distortion, the low- pass filter 40 in a phase locked loop including a phase comparator 20, a horizontal oscillator 50, deflection circuit 52 and integrater 56 is switched to a high gain condition at a time before the end of the vertical scanning interval. Such switching can be accomplished by a monostable multi-vibrator 71, 72 or a threshold arrangement (Figure 3). The invention is not prejudicial and does not require any switching out of the inventive components, when line pulses not liable to said unwanted phase discontinuities are being received, e.g. from conventional received transmissions. <IMAGE>
