Abstract

A latch device for a motor vehicle seat which can be fastened in either of two alternative positions has a casing 8 which is open on two opposing faces at 13a and 13b. A latching cam 11 is mounted pivotably in casing 8. Two inclined guide surfaces 9 each cooperate with one face of cam 11 to define a respective guide corridor 17a or 17b having entrances at respective opposing faces 13a, 13b. Two keeper members such as 6b are shaped for engagement, each through one of the guide corridors 17a and 17b. Each keeper member has a recess 19 in which a projecting stop 16a or 16b on the cam can engage. <IMAGE>
