Abstract

A powder distributer comprises a housing (10) having a reservoir (14) containing fingerprint dusting powder (22) which can be driven out through a mesh (20) under the action of an electric field between the reservoir and a surface suspected of containing fingerprints, said field being produced by a piezo-electric powered unit (28) incorporated into the housing with a squeeze grip actuator lever (32) for actuating the piezo-electric crystal. The mesh (20) is covered by a removable cover (24) or an apertured plate (38) having a movable member for closing off the apertures (40) in one portion. A rectifying circuit (37) is included for ensuring that the charge conveyed to the dusting powder (22) is of one polarity. <IMAGE>
