Abstract

A drawing instrument comprises a housing 12 within which is mounted a displaceable holder 14 into which can be fitted a drawing or painting device such as a pen or pencil 10 so that if the holder 14 is vibrated the pen or pencil 10 is also vibrated. Different forms of drive are described including the use of a flexible drive 22 from a remote motor 28 or a direct drive from a motor mounted directly on or in the housing 12. Rotation is converted into vibration using a cranked arm 16. Other forms of drive are an electromagnetic drive using a solenoid and magnetisable armature powered by a variable frequency source of electrical pulses, and a pneumatic drive using a piston and cylinder. <IMAGE>
