Abstract
A powder distributor into which edible powdered material can be put for electrostatically spraying the material onto foodstuffs comprises a housing (10) having a detachable cup-shaped reservoir (42) secured thereto. The mechanism for securing the reservoir (42) in place includes an electrical connection (36, 38) which conveys electric charge from a generator unit (28) to an electrode plate (44) within the reservoir (42). The reservoir includes a spigot (46) having an annular depression (48) which is engaged by a resiliently biased conductive ball (36). This interengagement not only holds the reservoir (42) in place but also establishes the electrical path. A diode (56) is provided to remove unwanted charge of the incorrect polarity from the output of the generator. The housing, the reservoir, and the perforated reservoir cap (50) are formed from non-corrodable materials. The charge generator (28) is a piezo-electric crystal powered generator but may alternatively be a battery powered oscillator driven high tension unit, or a capacitor discharge circuit or induction coil circuit. Reservoirs containing different powders may be used with the same housing. <IMAGE>
