Sheet feeding, clamping, and guiding arrangements; paper-shelves.-Means for collat.ing two sheets, for example a ledger sheet and a statement sheet, comprises front and rear papershelves provided with side guides for the sheets; the front shelf may be provided with a. clamp for holding one sheet during manipulation of the other, and a finger-lever for lifting slightly one of the sheets preparatory to being manipulated by the operator. A long rear shelf 6, similar to that described in Specification 148,379, is provided with two laterally-adjustable side guides 15, 16 preferably formed on resilient plates 9 engaging a rod 8 mounted in a bead on the shelf. The side guides can be secured by means of screws 20 passing through the back of the shelf. The front shelf consists of two laterally-adjustable plates 11, 12, the plate 12 having a flange 14, and the plate 11 having a ledge 19, an extension 18, and a flange 17. A paper-finger 43, Fig. 2, rests on the extension 18. Overlapping ledger and statement sheets and carbon sheet are placed on the rear shelf, the feed-rollers 26 are released, and the sheets are passed on to front shelf, the outer sheet resting on the plate 12 and the extension 18 and being gauged by the flanges 16, 17, and the inner sheet resting on the plates 11, 12 and being gauged at one side by the flanges 14, 15, and at the other by the ledge 19. The outer or ledger sheet is then adjusted to receive the first line of writing and is clamped to the extension by means of a clamp 29, described below, after which the inner or statement sheet is adjusted, the feed-rollers are returned, and a line is typed. If the lines on the statement and ledger sheets have not the same spacing, the statement sheet is adjusted by hand before the line-spacing devices are operated, the ledger sheet being retained by hand or the clamp 29. When the statement sheet has wider line-spaces than the ledger sheet, the statement sheet is automatically fed out when the last line has been printed thereon, and a new statement sheet is then introduced, preferably by means of condensed-billing apparatus such as that described in Specification 16915/05. The clamp 29 is secured to a lever 30 on a spindle 32 provided with a finger-piece 28, a spring 31 retaining the clamp in either effective or released position. To facilitate grasping of the statement sheet, it can be raised slightly by means of a finger-lever 48, Fig. 3, pivoted on the plate 12 and formed with an arm 51 adapted on pushing the finger-piece, to pass through a slot 52 in the plate.
