Abstract
A last for footwear, particularly sports footwear, having a sole-defining surface and an upper-defining surface, the two surfaces meeting along a closed loop, in which the reference surface generated by all straight lines (e.g. lines 10) extending perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the last and connecting two opposite points on the loop deviates from the sole-defining surface of the last. The reference surface is oriented horizontally in the heel and forefoot regions of the last (Figs. 6 and 4) and is sloped in supination in the metatarsal region of the last (Fig. 5), and in the large ball and large toe region of the last a plane tangent to the sole- defining surface of the last is sloped in pronation (Fig. 3). The transition between the horizontal heel region of the reference surface and the supination- sloped metatarsal region of the reference surface lies in the forward area of the heel region and the region of maximum slope of the metatarsal region of the reference surface lies in that area of the last which corresponds to the area of the foot at which the resultant of vertical forces is normally transmitted to the foot. <IMAGE>
