Abstract

A vapour circuit in which a working medium is expanded to perform work in a turbine 8, liquefied in a condenser, pumped to an elevated pressure and evaporated and superheated in a heat-exchanger system, the turbine having oil- lubricated shaft bearings 18, 19 at both ends, includes a gas barrier 41, 43 provided between each such bearing and the turbine chamber, and an exhaust chamber 53, 54 extending around the turbine shaft 17 in a position between each gas barrier 41, 43 and the turbine chamber, the working medium contaminated with barrier gas being extracted from the exhaust chambers and supplied to a separator. Labyrinth seals 36, 39, 57-60 are provided. Sealing oil is supplied, as at 20, 24, to the bearings. <IMAGE>
