Abstract

A gas centrifuge for separating gas mixtures comprises a casing (1) in which a rotor (2) is mounted for rotation about a vertical axis. At the bottom, the rotor is mounted in a self-centring bearing, and at the top has a cover (3) with a circular opening (4) through which a three-part concentric tube system (5) extends into the rotor. The longest (5a) and shortest tube (5c) each have a transverse tube (6) extending radially outwards to cause gas introduced to press against the inner wall of the rotor to centre the rotor. The outer wall (9) of the tube system (5) is made flexible at least in the region where it passes through the opening (4). A molecular pump (7) which is radially movable, is disposed between the rotor (2) and casing (1) with the interposition of a liquid seal. <IMAGE>
