Abstract
A sealing device (1) for passage of a web (5) into and out of a steam chamber (15) comprises a labyrinth seal (11) formed by spaced, stepped, opposed, grooves (11) formed in inserts (8) fixed in walls of pairs of pipes (3, 3; 3', 3'; 3'', 3''). Gas is flowed from pipes (3) through apertures (12) and passages (2) into the channel between the grooves. The gas is flowed inwardly into the chamber (15) and outwardly to passages (2') and thence into pipe pairs (3') and (3'') under suction through holes (12') (12''). <IMAGE>
