Abstract

A digital signal regenerator for partial-response signals accompanied by crosstalk or other noise having an amplitude varying with frequency is preceded by a band limiting filter which transforms the signal to a form having increased intersymbol interference and the same or fewer levels and which reduces the total power of the noise. The thus regenerated signal may be detected or passed to a second filter having an inverse transfer function which replicates the partial-response signal at its output so as to form a repeater which appears transparent. The filters may be of the type which combine the signal with a version thereof delayed by once or twice the repetition period. Duo binary signals may be converted to bipolar form in the filter and means are described for correcting code violations produced.
