Abstract

A wheel hub (1) has a bearing mounted thereon, the bearing having two inner races (9, 10) rigid with the wheel hub (1) and a flanged outer race (12) for securing the assembly to a hub carrier (14). The assembly also includes a driving member (5) for connection with a constant velocity joint, the driving member having a radial surface (7) which is connected by welding to the wheel hub (1) and having an abutment and axial thrust surface (17) for engaging the inner race (10). The surface (17) is disposed in a plane axially separated from the plane of the radial surface (7), that is, the surface (17) is further from the centre of the constant velocity joint. Preferably friction welding or electron beam welding is used, so that axial pressure is maintained against race (10), unaltered by heat effects of the welding process. <IMAGE>
