Abstract

The invention relates to a chain connector which is particularly suitable as a shortening link for round steel chains 11, and consists of a C-shaped hook member 1 which comprises transverse bar portions 6, 7 directed to both sides of the longitudinal plane of symmetry 5 at its free ends. In an introductory position the bar portion 6, 7 of the chain connector or shortening link is short enough so that it can be passed through the free residual portion of a chain link and, in the position turned back into the pulling direction of the chain, is long enough so that it engages over the longitudinal portions 12, 13 of the chain link so that it cannot be withdrawn.
