Polymers having the general formula:- -[-OC &cirf& O &cirf& CH2-C(Br)(NO2) -CH2-O &cirf& CO &cirf& Y &cirf& Z &cirf& Y-]@ wherein each Y is either a direct link or an -NH- group, Z is an optionally substituted divalent hydrocarbon radical, and n is an integer of at least 2; their preparation and their use for the protection of various media against attack by micro-organisms.
