1526661 Initiators for photopolymerization CIBA-GEIGY AG 22 Feb 1977 [23 Feb 1976] 07519/77 Heading C3P Anthrones for use as initiators in the photopolymerization of ethylenically unsaturated compounds have the formula where R 1 is H, OH or various hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyloxyhydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyloxy, hydrocarbyloxyhydrocarbyloxy or hydrocarbylthiohydrocarbyloxy radicals and R 2 is an organic radical as defined for R 1 which is hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyloxyhydrocarbyl when R 1 is OH and an oxy-terminated radical when R 1 is not OH, or R 1 and R 2 together represent -O-(CH 2 ) n -O- where n is 2, 3 or 4, and R 3 (substituted in the 1-, 2- or 3-position) is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, acylamino, alkylamino or dialkylamino. Applications include printing inks, printing plates and coatings.
