Abstract

A three-dimensional crimping is produced on a plurality of individual filaments comprising thermoplastic polymers, by means of mechanical compression crimping machines. Belts or warps whose individual filament cross-sections 1, 2 are symmetrical about two axes which are substantially perpendicular to each other are crimped, the geometrical moments of inertia of the individual filament cross-sections with respect to these axes being in a ratio of 3:1 to 7:1. Such filament cross-section produces crimp in 3-dimensions rather than the 2-dimensional crimp usually produced in a stuffer box. <IMAGE>
