Abstract

In the production of a cast product such as a piano frame by vacuum sealed moulding, in which at least one insert forms part of the cast aeroduct, at least one separately prepared insert (I) such as a crest component is originally fixed to an original pattern (1) by a covering film (8) drawn over the pattern and inserts by suction. A mould box 9 is then applied and a mould half 14, Fig. 1E, produced by vacuum moulding. After removing the pattern the mould half 14 is joined to a vacuum formed mould half 16 to provide a cavity 19 with the insert/s into which molten metal is charged. <IMAGE>
