Abstract
The invention relates to an automatic direction finder for marine vessels. The direction finder includes a rotatable aerial and a receiver for receiving a signal from a radio beacon, a circuit for sampling the output signals of the receiver, an analogue to digital converter for converting the sampled signals into digital signals and a processor which statistically analyses the digital signals to derive the bearing of the radio beacon. The processing may be simply an averaging technique or may include fitting a cosine wave to the sampled signal amplitudes. A suitably programmed microprocessor is used.
