Abstract

A mechanical shears which comprises a main eccentric carrying shaft 2 and a movable carriage 7 supporting a hold down. The carriage 7 with the hold down is lowerable by means of a wedge element 8 which is slidable at right angles to the direction of movement of the carriage in timed relationship with the operation of the shears. The wedge element 8 is arranged between a shear stand 1 and the hold down carriage and is operatively connected by way of a two-armed lever 5 to a connecting rod 4 mounted on an auxiliary eccentric or crank pin 3 arranged on the shaft 2. One arm of the two-armed lever 5 is connected by means of a link 6 to the wedge element 8, the other arm of the lever 5 being connected to a force balancing system 9. <IMAGE>
