Abstract

A spectrum analyser operating according to the fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm comprises a first memory means (2) for receiving series of input signal samples, a second memory means (3) containing weighting coefficients, arithmetical processing means (6), and control means (1) for applying the signal samples and weighting coefficients to the arithmetical processing means (6) to derive, by a process of successive intercalation, coefficients appropriate to express the series of input samples as a sum of frequency components having equispaced frequencies, wherein the weighting coefficients applied by the control means (1) are such that the frequencies of the frequency components are displaced from integral multiples of the frequency spacing by one quarter of the frequency spacing. <IMAGE>
