Abstract

Finely comminuted particles of an organic thermoplastic polymer are prepared by (1) dissolving the polymer in an excess of a solvent at a temperature above the melting point of the solvent, which solvent is solid at ambient temperature; (2) cooling the solution until it solidifies into a solid friable mass; (3) removing the solvent from the mass preferably by extraction into a second solvent and (4) recovering the polymer in the form of finely comminuted particles. By introducing powders at various stages in the preparation, particles can be prepared having powder dispersed throughout their mass and/or surface coating of powder. This preparation is particularly applicable in the production of toners for electrostatic reproduction purposes.
