Abstract

Aromatic compounds are separated from a hydrocarbon mixture by contacting in the liquid phase with a solid adsorbent comprising an inorganic porous carrier such as silica gel or alumina on which a silver compound has been supported and the adsorbed aromatic compounds are subsequently separated from the adsorbent with a polar organic solvent. This process enables oils of great purity, in particular medicinal oils, to be obtained.
