Abstract
Organic mixtures of hydrocarbons and/or substituted hydrocarbons and/or substituted hetero-aromatic compounds are separated using two solvents, the solvent which is selective for relatively less polar compounds being CwFxAyHz, where w is 4 to 20, x is 8 to 40 y and z are 0 to 5 and A is halogen, chaleogen or nitrogen. The sources of the mixtures are oil and kerosene fractions which are resolved into saturated and aromatic fractions. Many solvents for the more polar constitutents are specified, preferred being furfural, triethylene glycol and sulpholane.ALSO:A process for the separation of an organic mixture containing hydrocarbons and/or substituted hydrocarbons and/or substituted heteroaromatic compounds by means of dual liquid-liquid extractions with a first solvent selective for relatively polar compounds and with a second solvent selective for relatively less polar compounds comprises employing as the second solvent at least one compound having the formula CwFxAyHx, wherein w is an integer from 4 to 20, x is an integer from 8 to 40, y and z are zero or integers from 1 to 5, and A represents a halogen atom, a chalcogen atom or a nitrogen atom. The compounds C7F14Cl2 and C7F14Br2 are prepared from perfluoroheptene-1 and Cl2 or Br2 by irradiation with visible light. The compound C7F15Br is prepared by heating the silver salt of n-perfluorooctanoic acid with bromine.
